Several companies from the US, Greece and Hungary have expressed an interest in Marculesti Airport, and the authorities are considering this airfield as a potential future regional transport and logistics hub. This was announced by Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development. According to the minister, Marculesti Airport has been incorporated into the structure of Chisinau International Airport, and the process of transferring assets has already been completed, reports ipn.md. “Marculesti Airport has become part of Chisinau Airport. All the assets of Marculesti Airport have been transferred to Chisinau Airport on the basis of a handover certificate. Aviation development specialists will arrive there to carry out an analysis to identify regional trends, and then provide us with recommendations on what to invest in at Marculesti Airport,” said Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea during an appearance on the program În Context on public television. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, foreign investors’ interest in the airfield in the north of the country continues to grow. “There is an airport in Marculesti which handles between 230 and 250 flights annually. Every month, companies interested in Marculesti Airport contact the ministry and Chisinau Airport. These are companies from the US, Greece and Hungary. They are all interested in this site,” added Vladimir Bolea. The official highlighted the advantages of Marculesti Airport, noting its location close to the borders with Ukraine and Romania, as well as the availability of transport infrastructure. “This is an aerodrome situated just 100 kilometers from Ukraine and just over 100 kilometers from Romania. It has an excellent location. A four-lane road leads to it, which is due to be upgraded, and there is a rail link. In other words, we are talking about a fully-fledged logistics hub. We want to prepare this airfield for development, but we are still awaiting recommendations from experts,” emphasized the Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development.
