The Socialist Party criticized the decision of the Constitutional Court (CC), which rejected the request of the deputies from the PSRM on the constitutionality of the law on the transfer of the Republican stadium to the US Embassy. On July 22, representatives of the formation called on their supporters to be ready for a nationwide protest. "The Socialist Party expresses its extreme outrage at the verdict of the Constitutional Court, which upheld the illegal deal of the [Vladimir] Plahotniuc's regime to sell the territory of the Republican Stadium to the US Embassy," the PSRM said in a press release. Socialists claim that the Constitutional Court's decision is a consequence of "secret agreements" between President Maia Sandu and US Ambassador to Moldova Dereck Hogan. Note that the presidential administration has not yet commented on the PSRM's accusations. "The Party of Socialists will continue to fight to ensure that the Republican Stadium remains the property of the people of the Republic of Moldova. A new sports complex or other object of social significance should be built on its territory in the interests of Chisinau and its residents," the socialists said and called on their supporters to be ready for a nationwide protest action. The day before, on July 21, the Constitutional Court rejected the request of the Socialist Party MPs regarding the constitutionality of the law "On the Repayable Transfer of One Real Estate Object", adopted by the government and parliament in 2018. We are talking about the Republican Stadium which was supposed to become the property of the US Embassy in Moldova. The judges of the Constitutional Court considered that the request of the socialists was unacceptable and could not be considered on the merits. The court also reminded that Moldova has undertaken to facilitate the purchase of land and premises on its territory for the opening of diplomatic missions.
