Prosecutor General Alexander Stoyanoglo risks losing his position, as the current government in Chisinau is dissatisfied with his activities. Prime Minister Natalya Gavrilita announced this on the air of the program on the ProTV channel. According to the official, the indignation is connected with the fact that “some people who have legal problems in Moldova were allowed to flee abroad,” as realitatea.md reports “People do not understand how a prosecutor can work for two years, and no one has been punished for these two years. On the contrary, criminals are released from prison and one by one is going to foreign countries. We have instructions from people to change the order of actions of the prosecutor's office. We will make changes to laws take steps to assess. It is not easy, but we will work in this direction. We will make sure that there is not only independence, but also responsibility. We cannot continue to live in this lie, claiming that the judicial system is independent, that the system of the prosecutor's office is independent,” Natalya Gavrilita said. In this regard, the head of the executive branch said that her colleagues from the PAS will come up with an initiative to amend the legislation so that the prosecutor general can be fired. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, the Prosecutor General can be dismissed by the President of the Republic of Moldova upon the proposal of the High Council of Prosecutors in accordance with the law for objective reasons and within the framework of a transparent procedure. Also, the Prosecutor General is appointed by the President of the Republic of Moldova on the proposal of the Superior Council of Prosecutors for a period of 7 years, which cannot be extended. The current Prosecutor General Alexander Stoianoglo was elected following a competition in 2019.
