President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu welcomed the decision of the European Union to provide our country with gratuitous aid in the amount of about 745 million lei.
This amount is part of an economic recovery plan worth 600 million euros, which will be supported by the EU in the next three years, moldpres.md reports.
"EU support comes after a long period of freezing European aid due to the fault of the previous governments. As we promised in the election campaign, we managed to resume political dialogue with the European Union and renew the financial assistance. The Republic of Moldova is gradually restoring confidence of its strategic partners. This European support is also a signal of support for the new government team in its quest to clean up government institutions, fight corruption and launch development programs in the country," said Maia Sandu.
The head of state noted that the funds provided by the EU today will go to the state budget for the most urgent needs, including the fight against Covid-19 and economic support for companies affected by the pandemic.
"This is a significant aid, and we are grateful for it," emphasized Maia Sandu.
