Romanian President Klaus Iohannis appealed to European leaders to support Moldova in the supply of gas and electricity due to the fact that the Chisinau authorities are facing a crisis because of rising energy prices. On Monday, October 18, Iohannis took part in a videoconference with President of the European Council Charles Michel, President of Lithuania Gitanas Nauseda and Prime Ministers of Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia in preparation for the meeting of the Council of Europe from October 21 to 22 in Brussels, reports tvrmoldova.md with reference to caleaeuropeana.ro The main topics on the agenda of the Council of Europe meeting are European coordination in the environment of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising energy prices, migration, European trade policy and EU external relations. Thus, in the perspective of the Eastern Partnership summit to be held in Brussels in December, “the Romanian President stressed the need for the European Union to support through concrete measures the three partner countries that want to strengthen relations with the Union”. “In the current energy crisis, President Klaus Iohannis has asked for support in ensuring the supply of natural gas and electricity to the Republic of Moldova”, the Romanian presidential administration said in a press release. Earlier, Romania presented the problem of the gas crisis in Moldova to the EU Council meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers in Luxembourg and offered to provide financial assistance to Chisinau.
