Health Minister Ala Nemerenco made a number of statements in recent days that have caused public outrage.
In one of her public speeches, the head of the Ministry of Health said that the state “is wasting money to treat patients infected with COVID-19, but not vaccinated.”
“Treatment of patients in intensive care units, depending on the hospital in which they are located, ultimately costs from 20 thousand lei, sometimes reaching 150 thousand lei per patient. We are wasting this money in vain because someone does not want to be vaccinated,” said Ala Nemerenco.
Recall that last September, the ex-head of the National Agency for Public Health (NAPH) Nicolae Furtune said that in Moldova 99% of deaths from COVID-19 were among people who had at least one concomitant disease and called them “a burden for themselves and others”.
These words caused a wave of criticism and indignation. The scandal ended with Furtune’s resignation.
Then Ala Nemerenko said that she regretted the decision to appoint Nicolae Furtune as the head of the National Agency for Public Health (NAPH), which she took when she was a minister in the Sandu government.
“One thing is clear - Mr. Furtune must leave. Not only because of his statements, but also because he handled the pandemic situation in our country very poorly. The 1,074 people who died from COVID-19 were not a burden to their loved ones. Mr. Furtune is a burden for all of us,” Nemerenco concluded.
