The Speaker of the Parliament, Igor Grosu, reacted to criticism in connection with a significant increase in the salaries of judges of the Constitutional Court. “I understand that this contradicts what we promised, but I want to address the citizens, believe me, we must protect this institution, because the country’s development largely depends on it,” the speaker said on the broadcast on TVRMoldova TV channel, reports unimedia.info “I remind you that in 2019 this institution was under attacks. Members of the Constitutional Court were persecuted, subjected to very great financial temptations and resisted, they sided with the law. No matter how unpopular this decision may seem, it is important for society. The state should pay well and demand that they resist the risk posed by criminal groups,” Grosu said. Recall that five judges of the Constitutional Court will receive significantly higher monthly salaries due to changes in fiscal policy, as well as in the Budget Law recently approved by Parliament. According to the calculations of former Prime Minister Ion Chicu, the salary of judges of the Constitutional Court has increased from 44,735 to almost 82,000. PAS deputy Olesea Stamate explained such an increase, noting that “the country’s independence should be provided with a decent reward.”
