Gheorghe Avornic, a former member of the Superior Council of Magistracy (SCM), now a lawyer of former PDM leader Vladimir Plahotniuc, was appointed by the Academy of Sciences as a member of the Supreme Council of Prosecutors from civil society.
His appointment to the SCM is a challenge to the current government, noi.md reports.
This was stated by head of state Maia Sandu during the Cutia Neagră
broadcast on TV8.
"This decision is a challenge to our actions to reform the judicial system and citizens. I am very disappointed," Sandu said.
Currently, Gheorghe Avornic is the President of the Senate of the University of European Economic and Political Studies "Constantin Stere".
In January 2014, ZdG wrote that the Avornic family owns 30 companies in the Republic of Moldova and Romania, is the sole founder of the private higher education institution "Baltic Institute of Ecology, Politics and Law in Moldova", owns a 50% stake in the production and trading company Miledi SRL. Eight companies were registered in the name of his wife Anna Avornic, and his daughter Victoria Avornic was the founder of another 12 companies. Some of the companies of the Avorniс family acted as shareholders of other firms.
