The possible granting of EU candidate status to Moldova is “just a propaganda trick without any real consequences, but more likely a leash on which the EU is putting the country.”
This opinion was expressed by the Communist Party leader, ex-president Vladimir Voronin in the run-up to the consideration of Moldova’s application for EU membership at the European Council, reports infotag.md.
In his comment on this matter, he said “this status does not guarantee anything: for 40 years Turkiye has been a candidate and there is no hint of any change.
“It is no secret that Moldova is not ready even for this status. Neither by the level of democracy development, nor by economic or social parameters. Besides, no one knows what to do with Transdniestria, rejecting this vector of foreign policy integration,” the former president believes.
According to him, “the likely candidate status is one of the geopolitical results of the situation in neighboring Ukraine.”
“A guarantee that tensions in the region will continue to grow, if you will. In a burst of candor, pro-government analysts called the expected decision “the final withdrawal of Moldova from the Russian world” for a reason,” Voronin pointed out.
