The European Council granted EU candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. This decision was unanimously supported by all EU leaders during the summit in Brussels on June 23.
"The European Council has just decided to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova. A historic moment. Today marks a crucial step on your path towards the EU. My congratulations to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Moldovan President Maia Sandu, and also to the peoples of Ukraine and Moldova," he said, rbc.ua reports.
As previously stated by European and Ukrainian politicians, the candidacy is a symbol of support for Ukraine in the wake of war with Russia. It will also cement the country's European future and accelerate reforms.
