The General Prosecutor’s Office has charged Igor Dodon with committing the crime of abuse of office in the interests of an organized criminal group, within the criminal case called Energocom.
Recall that on December 29, 2021, the former President of the Republic of Moldova was questioned as a suspect in the said crime, the press release of the agency states.
Dodon stated earlier that he was not guilty and called all the summonses to the General Prosecutor’s Office “a show”.
The Energocom case concerns the purchase of electricity during 2008-2009 through an intermediary company. It is assumed that the fraudulent energy import scheme, which resulted in the theft of 12 million dollars from the budget, was created during Igor Dodon’s tenure as Minister of Economy.
