President Volodymyr Zelenskyy considers the refusal of NATO membership of Ukraine a historical mistake. He said this in an interview with CNN. “Now we are talking about both security guarantees for Ukraine, and about weapons and financial support, and we could have simply, by uniting, taken Ukraine into NATO. And at the last NATO meeting, we are grateful that we supported helping Ukraine, but for Ukraine they always found reasons why we cannot be there, while Sweden and Finland were immediately accepted. The decision is right, and with regard to Ukraine it is wrong, historically wrong,” Zelenskyy said, reports eurointegration.com.ua. The president said that he is glad that Sweden and Finland are accepted into NATO, because it shows a deep understanding of the risks for these countries because of Russia’s aggressive approach. “Therefore, we fully support their membership. The whole world is helping Ukraine, some with humanitarian aid, some with financial or military aid. The world is doing a lot, but it could have been easier – Ukraine could have been accepted as a NATO member. It would be much easier than people imagine,” he added. Point
