Nord Stream company, the NS operator, announced the simultaneous failure of three pipeline strings. “The destruction of three strings of the Nord Stream offshore pipeline simultaneously on the same day is unprecedented. It is not yet possible to estimate the timeframe for restoring the gas pipeline infrastructure to serviceability,” Interfax quoted the company as saying, reports meduza.io At night on September 26 there was a leak in one of the NS-2 strings, there were also gas leaks from both NS-1 strings. All three leaks took place in Denmark’s exclusive economic zone northeast of the Bornholm Island. The NS-2 pipeline was built in the fall of 2021 but has never been launched. On February 22, Germany stopped the process of its launch in response to Russia’s recognition of the independence of the self-proclaimed DPR and LPR. The NS-1 pipeline continued to operate after the war began. But first Russia reduced, and later stopped pumping gas through it, citing the malfunction of the only working turbine. The Kremlin said it would not restart the pipeline until Russian sanctions preventing maintenance of its units were lifted. The EU considers stopping NS-1 a political decision designed to put pressure on European countries that support Ukraine in its war with Russia. Point
