Biden stated the United States would never recognize Russia’s claims on Ukraine’s sovereign territory.
US President Joe Biden has said that the United States will never recognize Russia’s claims to the sovereign territory of Ukraine and will impose new sanctions against Moscow if it annexes new Ukrainian territories. This was reported by Reuters.
Speaking to Pacific Islands’ leaders, Biden condemned the pseudo-referenda in Ukraine’s temporarily seized territories as “absolute rigging”, saying the results were “fabricated in Moscow”.
“The United States, I want to be very clear about this, will never, never, never recognize Russia’s claims on Ukraine’s sovereign territory,” Biden said.
The U.S. president also noted that “Russia’s attack with imperial ambitions on Ukraine is a blatant violation of the UN Charter, the basic principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Biden said the United States is working with allies on sanctions to be imposed after Russia annexes new Ukrainian territories.
As a reminder, the European Commission has already approved a new package of sanctions against Russia. It will include a restriction on the price of Russian oil.
