Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Nicu Popescu attended the 29th meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Council of Foreign Ministers. In his speech, Popescu said that the Russian actions on the territory of Ukraine are a gross violation of the Helsinki Accords, international law and the UN Charter, tv8.md reported. He stressed that Moldova is in solidarity with Ukraine in its struggle. In particular, the country received about 80,000 Ukrainian refugees. He also mentioned last week’s blackout, which was caused by Russia’s massive shelling of Ukrainian infrastructure. Nevertheless, he assured, Moldova will remain on the side of the free world. The Ukrainian conflict, according to the head of Moldovan diplomacy, remains the main source of instability in the region. Another topic Popescu touched upon in his speech was the settlement of the Transdniestrian conflict. He stressed that Chisinau stands exclusively for resolving it peacefully through dialogue. However, Popescu stressed that the presence of Russian troops on the territory of the Transdniestrian region of Moldova is illegal, and the ammunition depot in Cobasna poses a threat to the security not only of our country, but also of the region as a whole.
