Azerbaijan offered the initiative to sign a peace treaty covering five principles. A peace treaty between the two countries can be signed based on these principles. According to report.az, the President Aliyev of Azerbaijan announced it at an expanded meeting with the FRG President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan supports the process of signing a peace agreement with Armenia, the mission of the President of the European Council Charles Michel, and the Brussels agenda. The head of state emphasized that Azerbaijan’s position includes two approaches. The first approach is the signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the second approach is the implementation of a dialogue with the Armenians residing in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. In turn, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that Germany supports the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan. The German President also noted that discussions at the meeting with the President of Azerbaijan were related to the normalization of relations and the signing of a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and that he hopes for the signing of this agreement. Frank-Walter Steinmeier stressed that Germany supports the mission by the President of the European Council Charles Michel, and in this context expressed the hope that the meeting will be held in Brussels as soon as possible. The German President added that Charles Michel’s mission is trusted by both sides. He also said that the US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken is providing serious support and contribution to the process of normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
