António Guterres has called on the DPRK to fully comply with its international obligations under all Security Council resolutions. UN Secretary-General António Guterres is concerned about rising tensions on the Korean peninsula. This was stated by his spokesman Stephane Dujarric at a briefing in New York on 15 March, the organization’s press service said. “The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s continued nuclear-related activities are contrary to its obligations under the relevant Security Council resolutions,” the UN secretary-general’s spokesman stressed. The Secretary-General reiterates his call on the DPRK to fully comply with its international obligations under all relevant Security Council resolutions, Dujarric added. “Diplomatic engagement remains the only path to sustainable peace and the complete and verifiable denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula,” he said. Recall that since March 13, the US and South Korea have been conducting joint command and staff exercises, the main purpose of which is to repel the DPRK’s potential aggression. Pyongyang conducted several missile launches amid the maneuvers of the allies. In particular, North Korea tested two medium-range ballistic missiles on March 14 and a long-range one on March16.
