At least 34 soldiers of the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo were injured on Monday, May 29, during clashes with protesters in the north of the country, the Italian Defense Ministry said. Among the wounded peacekeepers were also Hungarian and Moldovan soldiers. Tensions in the region escalated last week after ethnic Albanian mayors took office in Serb-majority northern Kosovo. NATO’s Kosovo Force (KFOR) said recent events prompted peacekeepers to enlarge footprint in northern Kosovo on Monday morning after activities turned violent.
