The European Union is preparing a “big meeting” between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and European Council President Charles Michel will also attend the talks. The meeting will take place on May 31 on the sidelines of the European Political Summit in Chisinau.
“I can confirm a meeting with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Tomorrow we will have a big meeting with President Macron and Chancellor Scholz. This is a big deal for us, which we are diligently preparing,” a senior EU representative told reporters in Brussels (quoted by TASS).
On May 25, Armenia and Azerbaijan announced the settlement of the territorial dispute. The Azerbaijani side argued that a peace agreement with Armenia could be signed on June 1 in Chisinau. Nikol Pashinyan stressed that the fourth edition of the document is currently being discussed, but there is no final version of the agreement.
