The ruling party “Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia” has introduced a constitutional submission along with a written demand of 80 majority MPs to launch impeachment proceedings against Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili to the Constitutional Court.
Earlier on Monday, the Parliamentary Committee on Procedures and Rules confirmed the authenticity of the MPs’ signatures. According to the committee’s chairman Irakli Kadagishvili, all documentation related to the constitutional submission, all formalities stipulated by law have already been finalized in parliament.
“This submission has already been sent to the Constitutional Court. It will soon be registered and then discussed within one month.
It is impeachment that will resolve this issue legally,” Kadagishvili claimed. Without the opposition’s support, the parliamentary majority, represented by the “Georgian Dream” and members of the “People’s Power” movement, will not be able to complete the impeachment procedure, as it needs at least 100 votes, and the majority currently has only 83 mandates.
