The Moldovan authorities would like to resolve the Transnistrian conflict before the country joins the European Union in order to prevent destabilization. The country’s President Maia Sandu stated this. “We want to be able to reintegrate the country peacefully before joining the EU. The authorities have sought primarily to keep peace, this is what we will continue to do in order to prevent destabilization that would threaten Moldova’s security,” Maia Sandu said on air on Vocea Basarabiei. The authorities, she said, are doing everything possible to help the residents of the left bank. In the reintegration process, they intend to take into account the interests of Transnistrian residents as well. “This is what we want, but everything depends not only on us. Depending on the situation or in a less optimistic scenario, there is also the possibility of joining the EU in two stages,” Maia Sandu admitted.
