The European Council decided to start accession negotiations with Moldova and Ukraine. This was stated in social networks by President Maia Sandu and the President of the European Council Charles Michel. “Dear Moldovans, congratulations to you! Today’s decision to open negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union is a victory for all of us. The European Union has said yes to our country, it has said yes to our European future. This is a new page of our history. Two years ago, nobody could have imagined that in 2023, the European Commission would propose to start accession negotiations with Moldova. Today’s success is the merit of the whole society - all those who choose democracy and prosperity, who work with perseverance and patience, who came to vote, who protested for freedom and continued to believe that Moldova deserves better,” President Maia Sandu wrote on Facebook. “The European Council has decided to start accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova and granted Georgia candidate status. And the EU will start negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina as soon as the necessary degree of fulfilment of the accession criteria is achieved and has invited the Commission to report by March in order to take such a decision. A clear signal of hope for their peoples and for our continent,” Charles Michel said on social media.
