The law does not allow high-ranking persons to receive monetary rewards.
Thus, the head of state Maia Sandu should not have accepted the money award from Timisoara authorities. The clarification was made by the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Commission for Legal Affairs, Appointments and Immunities, Olesea Stamate, on the air of the Rezoomat program.
“In terms of legislation, as far as I’ve been interested and looked through the legislation, it is not allowed. She cannot receive money. It cannot be categorized as a gift because a gift has to be declared and money would be taken out of the equation. I understand the intentions of the awarding bodies, and I do not think they have thought through the legal intricacies, and there probably needs to be a solution to this problem. I think that the Presidential Office is considering a solution,” Olesea Stamate said.
