Tbilisi expects Ukrainian and Moldovan presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Maia Sandu to apologize for lying about the torture of former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili in prison. This was stated by the speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili on air of the Georgian First Channel.
“We have learnt from the European Committee’s conclusion that President Zelensky, President Sandu and MEPs lied when they accused Georgia of torturing Saakashvili. Today we have learnt that many Western politicians disgraced themselves in front of Georgia and the Georgian people. Therefore, we expect these people to apologize,” he said.
The day before, the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture said in its report that it had found no violations in the detention of convicted Saakashvili in the clinic.
“They made us live for two years as if Saakashvili was tortured, harassed, etc. Today, the conclusion of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture actually states that President Zelensky, President Sandu and MEPs lied when they accused Georgia of torturing Saakashvili,” Papuashvili commented on the committee’s report.
Georgia expects apologies from the mentioned politicians, the speaker stressed, 1tv.ge reports.
According to him, through the American register it became known that millions were spent on lobbyists to buy articles, TV spots, political statements about “Saakashvili’s torture”. In addition, it became known that the EP resolutions on this topic were drafted by American lobbyists, Papuashvili concluded.
