Polish President Andrzej Duda has said that Poland is ready to deploy nuclear weapons on its territory if NATO allies so decide. According to him, the deployment of US nuclear weapons in Poland “has been a topic of negotiations” with the United States for some time now. “If our allies decide to deploy nuclear weapons as part of the joint use of nuclear weapons also on our territory to strengthen the security of NATO’s eastern flank, we are ready for it,” Andrzej Duda told Fakt. Mr. Duda noted that Russia was “increasingly militarizing” the Kaliningrad oblast bordering Poland, and that Russia had recently moved nuclear weapons to Belarus. In the event of the US weapons’ deployment, the president stressed, Poland would fulfil its obligations as a NATO ally. Back in October 2022, Polish President Andrzej Duda announced plans to gain access to the US nuclear weapons exchange programme. He attributed this to a desire to secure Poland against growing threats from Russia.
