Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has thanked US senators for their decision to approve an aid package for Kyiv. “This vote strengthens America’s role as a beacon of democracy and leader of the free world,” Zelensky said.
The US Senate has finally approved a foreign aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. Its amount totaled 95bn dollars. 61bn dollars of this amount is earmarked for Ukraine.
79 senators “favored” this bill, 18 opposed. Earlier, the document, consisting of four bills, was supported by the House of Representatives.
Mitch McConell, Republican Senator: “Even as Moscow, Beijing, and Tehran grew more convinced that our influence had run its course. And even as loud voices here at home insisted on abandoning the responsibilities of leadership. America stepped up and the Senate held firm.”

The decision only needs President Joe Biden’s signature to take effect. He has promised to do that immediately.
