According to a recent report by the Public Property Agency, Moldova Railway recorded huge losses of 143.87 million lei in 2023. Although the trade of the state-owned company reached 207.08 million lei, operating losses totaled 144.57 million lei and the financial situation remains critical, bani.md reported. Currently, the Moldova Railway is facing wage arrears of about 150 million lei and the financial outlook is bleak. The latest figures show a 21.4% drop in freight traffic while statistics for the first six months of 2024 proves a sharp 35.8% drop in freight traffic. Although in May 2022, former director Oleg Tofilat announced full payment of salary arrears and significant salary increases due to improved revenues, financial problems returned, affecting the stability of the company.
