Chisinau has entered the ranking of the most expensive cities in Europe: prices have risen sharply, while salaries have remained the same.
Economist Veaceslav Ionita said that Moldova has been hit hard by the price hike, but future forecasts are promising, tvrmoldova.md reported.
“We had a price shock that we haven’t had since 2000 - 22 years. It started in 2021, when energy prices began to grow, then food prices went up. That increase happened all over the world, but there was no bigger shock than here.
At the same time, the war in Ukraine also had a big impact. We are talking about increasingly expensive logistics, as well as cheap products from Ukraine that are no longer in our stores.
Wages, however, have not risen. This year we are likely to have an increase. Prices are not rising now, even a slight decrease has been recorded,” Veaceslav Ionita said.
