Dorin Junghietu was appointed as the new Minister of Energy. On Wednesday, 19 February, he was sworn in before President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean. He took office after the resignation of Victor Parlicov. Dorin Junghietu is a gas and energy expert with more than 16 years of international experience in the coordination and commissioning of large energy projects, Radio Moldova writes. Prime Minister Dorin Recean proposed to the head of state to appoint him as the new energy minister. “In autumn 2024, Dorin Junghietu won the contest for the position of the chairman of the Moldovagaz Administrative Council, but so far Gazprom has not approved this appointment. In the current circumstances, I am sure that his experience will be much more useful as a minister,” the prime minister said. Recean said that Junghietu’s main task will be to consolidate the country’s energy security and ensure stability in gas and electricity supplies, as well as the most favorable tariffs. Another priority is to streamline and speed up major investment projects in the renewable energy sector, energy efficiency and, in particular, the completion of the Vulcanesti-Chisinau power transmission line within the set deadline.
