Three Moldovan district councils - Floresti, Straseni and Cantemir - decided to close or initiate liquidation procedures for some educational institutions, citing the need to optimize resources and streamline the school network. Thus, the Floresti district council decided to liquidate the Iliciovca gymnasium from 1 September 2025. According to the document, the institution’s director and the head of the Main Department of Education are to ensure compliance with the legal provisions regarding the closure of the educational institution, as well as procedures related to the employed staff, noi.md reported. At the same time, the Straseni district council approved the liquidation of the Dolna gymnasium and the transfer of students to the Ion Creanga gymnasium in Micleuseni. The decision will take effect from 1 September 2025. The loan agreement concluded with Dolna Municipality will be cancelled and the assets will be transferred according to legal procedures. The district council of Cantemir has initiated the liquidation procedure of Plopi Gymnasium, according to a note submitted by the head of the Cantemir District Education Department, Tatiana Cechir. The decision was made on 27 March 2025, and the responsibility for continuing the procedures lies with the district’s Main Department of Education. The decisions were justified by the need to reorganize the network of educational institutions in the context of a shrinking student population and the efficiency of public expenditure.
