Moldova’s ruling party is backing Crin Antonescu, the candidate of the Romania Forward Alliance, in Romania’s presidential election. The announcement was made by Igor Grosu, chairman of the Action and Solidarity Party, at a press conference attended by Crin Antonescu as well as Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresan, reports rupor.md. “On 4 May, we need our unity once more, our Bessarabian brothers, to contribute to a European, free and strong Romania. A European, honorable and strong Romania also means a Moldova that walks firmly towards the future and remains free to choose its path,” said Igor Grosu, Speaker of Parliament. He said it is important for Moldova that the Romanian president be a resolute defender of its interests. “On 4 May, let’s show the whole world what kind of strength the citizens of the Republic of Moldova are, let’s not allow foreign extremist forces that don’t like Moldova to lead Romania off the right path, the path of economic development and preservation of peace,” the PAS leader said. Crin Antonescu said that the presidential election is in a certain sense common for Romania and Moldova. “A decisive pro-Western president with a foundation, stability and majority support is a guarantee that relations between Chisinau and Bucharest will develop,” the candidate from the Romania Forward Alliance specified. According to the Romanian politician, the relations between Romania and Moldova have made significant progresses on Moldova’s European integration path in recent years. “As a candidate for the Romanian presidency, I envision a broader partnership, economic and trade ties to build on political and economic progress we’ve already made”.
