President Maia Sandu made this statement during a joint press conference in Chisinau with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas. “Russia’s war against Ukraine continues to affect our economy, security and daily life. Russian drones are violating our airspace, endangering people’s lives, affecting the energy system, and have recently caused a serious water supply crisis in a number of settlements across the country. In this context, EU support through the European Peace Facility is of key importance. The €190 million allocated to Moldova since 2021 comprises equipment, vehicles and a new radar system, which will be installed in the coming months. The logistics vehicles already purchased were used during the Dniester pollution crisis to deliver drinking water to affected citizens. This is a concrete example of how defense equipment can have a dual purpose and assist in managing civil emergencies,” said Maia Sandu, as quoted by unimedia.info. “We know that the new radar system has already arrived in the Republic of Moldova, and it will help to better detect Russian drones,” added Kaja Kallas.
