The Council for Integrated State Border Management held an extraordinary meeting during which a decision was approved to establish a Quality Control Working Group as part of preparations for the assessment of compliance with Schengen Area requirements. During the meeting, the Council’s Deputy Chairperson, State Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Diana Salcutan, emphasized that the creation of the Working Group represents a concrete step forward in strengthening the national quality control mechanism, contributing to improved institutional coordination and advancing preparations for Schengen-related evaluations, logos-press.md reports. The implementation of the national quality control mechanism will help enhance public security and protect fundamental rights, having a direct impact on individuals crossing the border. The assessment and monitoring process will focus in particular on ensuring the proper treatment and protection of vulnerable groups at the border, including women, children, and victims of human trafficking, in line with international best practices. The results of these assessments will serve as a basis for strategic decisions and funding priorities, ultimately improving citizens’ quality of life and travel experience. Beginning in February 2026, the National Council for Integrated State Border Management assumed strategic coordination of the National Quality Control Mechanism, an assessment and monitoring instrument based on missions conducted within national institutions. Its role is to identify shortcomings, vulnerabilities, and areas requiring improvement or investment, supporting both the enhancement of security service quality and preparations for European Union assessments in the context of prospective accession to the Schengen Area.
