PAS MP Adrian Balutel commented on Alexei Codreanu’s decision to leave the party and step down from leadership positions in the PAS territorial organization in Orhei. According to Balutel, Codreanu had been a member of the PAS National Political Bureau for the past four years but never raised the grievances he later voiced after his departure. He noted that his former colleague had ample opportunity to bring up such issues internally, but did not do so, unimedia.info reports. Balutel believes Codreanu’s resignation is primarily linked to the results of the recent local elections in Orhei, where PAS finished only in fifth place. In his view, the party has already acknowledged the need to reorganize its district structures and adjust its approach to engaging voters. The MP said he expects Codreanu to take responsibility for the results of the organization he led, stressing that the accusations against PAS appeared only after his announcement of leaving the party. “He masked his departure with accusations I had never heard from him, even though he was part of the party’s leadership body,” Balutel stated. He added that there were no discussions about removing Codreanu from his position and that the decision to leave was made solely by him. Previously, Alexei Codreanu announced his resignation from PAS, stating that alternative opinions were being ignored within the party and that principles of democracy and meritocracy were no longer being respected. PAS responded that it respects his decision but considers a reorganization of its Orhei branch necessary following poor election results.
