Serbia can become a member of the European Union until 2025, French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday, July 17 following a meeting with his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vucic. “Things are moving faster than expected,” Tass quoted the French leader. Macron noted that Serbia “must fulfill all the conditions set”, and clarified that he is not inclined to formalism in this matter. In response, the Serbian president said that Belgrade hopes for a positive decision by the European Union on this topic. The official candidates for joining the EU are Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro and Turkey. In the winter, European Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and negotiations on the EU enlargement Johannes Khan said that Serbia and Montenegro can become members of the European Union until 2025, if they fulfill all the requirements. Vučić noted that EU membership is a foreign policy priority of the country, but Belgrade does not intend to mar relations with Russia and impose sanctions on Moscow.
