The Italian Minister, whose party openly cooperated with United Russia, stands for the lifting of sanctions against the Russian Federation. The Head of the Interior Ministry of Italy called the occupation of Crimea legitimate, and the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine “pseudo-revolution”. Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior of Italy Matteo Salvini called the occupation of Crimea by the Russian Federation in 2014 legitimate, and the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine “pseudo-revolution”. He said this in an interview with The Washington Post. In particular, he was asked why he was in favor of lifting sanctions against Russia. “Because they have not proved that they have become useful and, in accordance with the information received, they are harmful to Italian exports,” Salvini emphasized. Also, the Italian minister claims that a “referendum” took place in Crimea in 2014. To the clarifying question that it was a fake referendum, Salvini replied that this is the viewpoint of the journalist. “A referendum was held, and 90% of people voted for the return of the Crimea to the Russian Federation,” Salvini said. However, when the correspondent was curious what kind of a “referendum” was it, when there were Russian soldiers on the peninsula, the Minister suggested comparing it with the revolution in Ukraine. “Compare it with the fake revolution in Ukraine, which was a “pseudo-revolution” financed by foreign countries – similar to the revolutions during the Arab Spring... There are certain historically Russian zones with Russian culture and traditions that legally belong to the Russian Federation,” said the Italian Minister. In addition, Salvini commented on accusations that his party League (formerly called the Northern League) receives funds from the Russian ruling party of Putin’s United Russia. “This is fake news. We are suing those who report this. It is not true. We never took a single euro, not a ruble or a single dollar,” he says. At the same time, the Minister replied about an agreement between the League and the United Russia: “Yes, it was a political agreement, which broadcasted on the worldwide network. The subject of the agreement was cooperation between youth movements in cultural and economic matters, like with other parties, such as the National Front in France and the Freedom Party of Austria”. The Washington Post notes that it tried to find evidence to confirm Salvini’s words for comparing the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine with revolutions in some Arab countries, but did not find them. The publication notes that such information was widely disseminated only after the Russian media published it. Source: UNIAN
