French President: Europe Cannot Depend on US for Security

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Monday, August 27, about his country’s new efforts in promoting the European defense plan. Speaking to representatives of the French diplomatic corps in Paris today, Macron said that the continent’s security shouldn’t rely so much on the United States, Associated Press reports. “Europe cannot rely on the United States only for its security. It’s up to us to meet our responsibilities and guarantee our security, and therefore European sovereignty”, stressed the head of France. According to Macron European countries should revise the European architecture of defense and security, working together with Russia on this issue. “I advocate for a broad consideration of these issues with our partners in the broadest sense of the word, and, consequently, with Russia”, said Macron.
