Moldova was called to live up to democratic norms, rather than introducing into the Constitution what is already enshrined in the Association Agreement. This is the reaction of the EU Delegation in Moldova to the request of the Radio Europa Liberă to comment on the intention of the ruling Democratic Party headed by oligarch Vladimir Plahotniuc. “For the relations of the European Union with Moldova, the Association Agreement is decisive. Second paragraph of its Preamble says about the confirmation of European aspirations and the European choice of the Republic of Moldova”, notes the response of the EU Delegation. In this regard, EU diplomats stressed that they expected from the Moldovan authorities “to observe the values contained in the Association Agreement. This is a commitment not only to European partners, but, more importantly, to the citizens of the country. In this context, it is necessary to have large implementations on everything that concerns the rule of law and the democratic standards observance”, stresses the response of the EU Delegation to Moldova regarding the initiative of the Democratic Party to change the Constitution.
