The U.S. authorities may impose new sanctions against Russia “every month or two”, said Kurt Volker, US special envoy to Ukraine. Speaking at a conference in the Atlantic Council in Washington, Volker confirmed the U.S. intention not to change its policy toward Russia: according to him, sanctions are an effective tool of pressure. Therefore, they are going to be kept, as well as periodically to expand the toolbox of sanctions, as before. Volker also thanked the European Union for its unity on the imposing sanctions against Russia. The special representative also supported the decision to lift the embargo on the sale of American weapons to Kyiv, noting that the United States for the moment consider Ukraine “just like an ordinary country that has the right to defend itself”. According to Volker, the goal of arms delivery is not an escalation of the conflict in the east of Ukraine, but, on the contrary, to deter possible further Russian aggression. Source: Radio Liberty
