Ukraine is preparing a lawsuit to the International Court of Justice demanding to recognize Russia’s responsibility for the act of aggression in the Kerch Strait, President Petro Poroshenko said in the program “Freedom of Speech” on ICTV channel. According to him, the Ukrainian sailors detained on November 25 acted in full accordance with international law, while Russian border guards attacked them in the neutral waters of the Black Sea. The detained Ukrainian military are not liable to a criminal Russian court, because according to the Geneva Convention, and they were captured by the act of aggression, they are prisoners of war”. For the return of Ukrainian sailors and the recognition of Russian aggression, it is necessary to “unite the efforts of the whole world”, Poroshenko said. He also noted that before December, 3, the European Court of Human Rights has adopted a decision demanding Russia to provide immediate information about Ukrainian sailors. Moscow has violated the ECHR's decision and has not provided any information, said Poroshenko.
