Parliament Speaker Andrian Candu considers that the relations with the EU will return to the necessary pragmatism of mutual benefits after the parliamentary elections in Moldova and after the elections to the European Parliament of 2019. According to him, relationship with the EU in 2018 was based not on pragmatism, but on political emotions, IPN reports. The head of the Parliament noted that the European integration remains the key priority of the Republic of Moldova and only this development model is viable for the country. “Regrettably, sometimes the relationship with the EU, especially in 2018, was based not on pragmatism, but on political emotions, political reactions and political affiliation”, Andrian Candu stated during the program “Fabrika” on Publika TV channel. According to him, in the European Parliament there is a majority held by the European People’s Party that had the Liberal Democratic Party, which ruled for several years, as a partner in Moldova. “Then the support was different, tolerance was different and a lot of mistakes were tolerated. As there is no exponent of the European People’s Party in power in our country now, things deviated from the relationship of political affinity”, said the Speaker. The chairman also spoke about the information security, noting that the Republic of Moldova is subject to cyberattacks almost daily. That’s why an information security strategy is needed to create a special platform and the institutional capacities needed to cope with cyber challenges. “During the previous elections, our systems, the servers of the Parliament and Government, were attacked 754,000 times. We must ensure cyber protection every time we are attacked”, stated the head of the Parliament. As to the upcoming parliamentary elections, Andrian Candu said he would run only on the party list of the Democratic Party and will not compete in a single-member constituency. Source: NOI
