The U.S. President put forward the idea of signing the triple pact on the refusal to produce weapons
President Donald Trump expressed regret that the United States, China and Russia are making hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of weapons, including nuclear, and suggested to stop the spending and spend on things that maybe are more productive toward long-term peace.
Trump said this during a meeting with Vice Premier Liu He of the People’s Republic of China, which took place in the oval office of the White House.
The President also suggested another possible agreement between the major world powers, which could be signed after the conclusion of the U.S. - China Trade Agreement. The phase two of the deal, according to Trump, should relate to the financing of the defense industry and the production of weapons.
“As you know, China is spending a lot of money on military. So are we. So is Russia. And those three countries, I think, can came together and stop the spending”, Donald Trump said. He added that funds intended for the production of weapons “would be better spent spend on things that maybe are more productive toward long-term peace”.
“I think it will be much better if we all gather and (decide) to stop producing weapons”, the President said. Deputy Prime Minister Liu He called Trump’s proposal “a good idea”.
