U.S. President Donald Trump has promised to invite Russian leader Vladimir Putin to the G7 summit next year in the United States. He said this on Monday at a press conference in France following the G7 summit. “Will I invite him (Putin)? I would certainly invite him. Whether he could come or not, psychologically, I think that's a tough thing to do. He's a proud person,” Trump added. Trump said “if somebody would make that motion, I would certainly be disposed to think about it very favorably,” regarding the inclusion of Russia in the group. “I do not take political considerations into account (in the matter of inviting the Russian Federation to the G7 summit in 2020). I won one election, polls show that I can win the next election, and I’m taking the steps that are right,” Trump said when questioned if the invitation of Russia to the next G7 summit will affect his chances to be re-elected. On August 20, Trump first announced the advisability of Russia returning to the G8, since many of the topics on the G8 agenda concern Moscow. A similar proposal voiced the French leader Emmanuel Macron. Nevertheless, many G7 countries linked Russia’s return to G7 with the implementation of the Minsk Agreements on Ukraine. The Russian Federation was expelled from the G8 (Canada, USA, Japan, Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy) in 2014 after reunification with the Crimea. News
