With a 95% probability, even after January 1, the natural gas will follow the traditional line to the Republic of Moldova. However, the authorities provided an alternative scenario. This was stated by Prime Minister Ion Chicu in a video interview for ipn.md According to the Prime Minister, a threat to gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova existed, exists and will exist, “but the society can calmly rest, after January 1 everything will be all right”. To ensure the country's energy security, it is necessary to diversify the sources of gas and electricity supplies. In this regard, an agreement with the World Bank on connecting the country's electricity system to the European system, in the amount of $ 60 million was signed, the Prime Minister said. There is also the Iasi – Ungheni – Chisinau gas pipeline. According to Chicu, the first real step towards putting the pipeline into operation next year was made recently when the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development approved the project for financing this pipeline submitted by a Romanian construction company. “An important moment, however, is that this pipeline does not have sufficient capacity to supply the whole country, and if the gas does not come from Gazprom, then in Romania there will not be enough gas to share with others,” - explained the Prime Minister. Ion Chicu noted that as long as there is no official gas transit agreement between Ukraine and Russia, all government agencies remain vigilant. The interview “Prime Minister Ion Chicu’s View on the Situation in the Moldovan Society at the Turn of the Years” is part of the series “Crossroads in the Light of the Ideality of a Good Life in the Homeland”, which was attended by President Igor Dodon and Prime Minister Ion Chicu, as well as leaders of the main parliamentary parties – Andrei Nastase and Maya Sandu.
