The European Union expects Moldova to continue high-profile investigations into high-profile cases initiated by the General Prosecutor’s Office. This was stated by EU Ambassador to Moldova Peter Michalko at a meeting with Prime Minister Ion Chiku, during which the officials discussed current situation in Moldova with a focus on the justice reform evolution and the country’s economic development, interlic.md reports. The EU Ambassador to Moldova underlined the need to develop a well-defined strategy for implementing a justice reform. In this context, Peter Michalko noted the importance of continuing high-profile investigations initiated by the General Prosecutor’s Office. The Prime Minister said that the justice reform remains a priority for the government, which is working hard in this direction. In this regard, the head of the executive branch spoke about the exchange of views held with the Chairman of the Venice Commission Gianni Buquicchio in Strasbourg and Chisinau. The parties also discussed the issue of blocking by the Supreme Council of Magistracy. “We are aware that in the process of implementing comprehensive reforms that we have begun we need communication and support from external partners,” Ion Chiku added. Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Ion Chiku thanked the European Union for expanding quotas for Moldovan products export to the European market, and assured that the government remains open for an honest cooperation with the EU.
