Russian gas supplies via the TurkStream gas export pipeline will begin "in a few days". This was announced by Gazprom’s CEO Alexey Miller at the New Year’s real-time conference, RIA Novosti reports. "In a few days, we will start supplying gas through the Turkish Stream offshore gas pipeline, and ahead is the completion of the Nord Stream 2," Miller said. According to him, the new pipelines running along the bottom of the sea will help Europe in the implementation of environmental projects and increase the EU energy security. In late August, Russian President Vladimir Putin said gas supplies to Turkey via the pipeline would begin before the end of this year. The opening ceremony of the TurkStream will take place in Istanbul on January 8. It will be attended by Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Dusan Bajatovic, Director General of Srbijagas, on December 25 said that Serbia had completed the laying of the Turkish Stream pipe on its territory. The Serbian section is 403 km in length and runs under the Tisza, Danube and Velika Morava rivers. The TurkStream pipeline consists of two strings with a total length of about 1,100 km. Their annual total capacity is 31.5 billion cubic meters of gas. One string is intended for consumers in Turkey, while the second will carry Russian gas to customers of Southern and Southeast Europe.
