Iran has attacked US military bases in the west and north of Iraq, wanting to avenge the assassination of General Soleimani. Tehran claims the destruction of one of the bases. The Pentagon has not yet assessed the damage. Ain al-Asad air base in western Iraq, where American soldiers are located, was attacked by Iran. This was reported in a statement released by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) on Wednesday night, January 8. The attack is called an act of retaliation for the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani assassination.  Tehran announced the "complete destruction" of the facility as a result of the attack, reporting that at least nine missiles were fired at the airbase. The US Department of Defense declares an attack on its two bases. According to the Pentagon, the base in Erbil also suffered rocket attacks. According to the US military, Iran launched more than a dozen ballistic missiles. At the same time, while the Pentagon is not ready to assess the damage. It is also unknown whether there are deaths from rocket attacks. Relations between the United States and Iran sharply escalated after American aircraft attacked Baghdad’s airport on January 3, killing Iranian general Qasem Soleimani, who led the Al-Quds IRGC special forces.
