Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced his resignation after Vladimir Putin has proposed to amend the Russian constitution. The Russian government resigned. This was announced by former Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Wednesday, January 15, immediately after the proposal of President Vladimir Putin to amend the Russian Constitution and hold a referendum. According to Medvedev, this measure will change the “balance of executive, legislative and judicial powers”. “In this context, it is obvious that we, as the government of the Russian Federation, should provide the president of our country with the opportunity to make all necessary decisions. And in these conditions, I believe it was the right step for the current government of the Russian Federation to resign in accordance with Article 117 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation,” said Medvedev. Vladimir Putin in response suggested that Medvedev take the post of deputy chairman of the Security Council. Medvedev will remain acting prime minister until the new government is formed.
