As Prime Minister Ion Chicu said after the commission’s meeting, the government will also adopt some of the provisions today that will quickly provide “long-awaited assistance” to citizens. According to him, in order to ensure the payment of benefits and salaries to those employers who can pay them in a crisis, but are waiting for the state to cover taxes and contributions, the emergency commission approved some provisions from the previously adopted “anti-crisis” package. We are talking about paying unemployment benefits in the amount of 2775 lei, raising the amount of social benefits up to 1300 lei and the procedure for paying it, about compensating employers for taxes and contributions when paying salaries, about suspending the patent payment and extending reporting deadlines. At the same time, Chicu noted that the emergency commission could not approve a VATreduction of up to 15% for hotels and restaurants or transferring 50% of airport taxes to the budget, since these are long-term measures. Chicu added that the commission also approved benefits payment to doctors and nurses who are directly involved in the fight against coronavirus. They will receive a bonus - 100% of their base salary. Medical staff who are not directly involved in the treatment of coronavirus patients but are indirectly involved in the process, for example, ambulance staff, will receive the premium of 50%.
