Moldovan President Igor Dodon said that he could visit Minsk on May 19 to take part in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. Dodon wrote about this on May 4 on Facebook after an online conversation with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko. Dodon highly praised measures taken by the Belarusian authorities in the fight against coronavirus. “As part of the conversation, we discussed the procedure for organizing a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, scheduled for May 19 in Minsk. I noted that we respect the decision of the organizers, and if it will be necessary to come to the capital of Belarus, I will do it, especially since on my initiative a monument was made in Minsk to our compatriot, Hero of the Soviet Union Ion Soltis. Its unveiling is timed to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory,” Dodon said. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that he was ready to organize the EAEU summit scheduled for May 19 in Minsk in any format, but he himself considered it possible to meet face-to-face. “As for the EAEU, I spoke today with the President of Kazakhstan Tokayev. They are now consulting with the president of Russia. I can tell you what I have told him: I am your servant, whatever you say goes. I am organizing an event. I am ready to accept all of you on May 19. I promise complete safety. I am sure that you will leave Minsk in a good mood, if, of course, the situation allows you to arrive,” the head of state said. During the conversation, Dodon said that he "appreciated" the measures of the Belarusian authorities in the fight against coronavirus. “We discussed measures taken to contain the new type of coronavirus and its spread. He praised the activities of Belarusian colleagues in this regard, emphasizing that each state acts on the basis of its own circumstances,” Dodon said. He said that in connection with the coronavirus pandemic in Moldova, large-scale events dedicated to the Victory Day will be postponed until August 24 - the day of liberation of our country from fascism. At the same time, I was impressed by the fact that the Victory Parade will be held on May 9 in Belarus, subject to all safety standards,” Dodon wrote. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said on the eve that the parade in honor of Victory Day on May 9 will not be canceled due to the coronavirus. “I must say that we cannot cancel the parade. Just can't. I thought about it for a long time. Of course, this is an emotional, deeply ideological thing. We must remember that those people [war veterans] were dying... for our sake, however pathetic it may sound,” he explained. Batyr Berdyklychev, representative of the World Health Organization in Belarus, said that the country has one of the highest growth rates of new cases of coronavirus in the European region. The WHO representative noted that one of the main reasons for the rapid development of the epidemic in the country was the lack of adequate measures of physical distance. “Experience shows that such measures slow down the spread of the virus and allow medical services to gain the time necessary for adequate preparation,” the official said. As of May 4, 17489 cases of coronavirus were recorded in Belarus (+784 per day). 3259 people recovered, 103 died. The authorities of Belarus did not introduce serious restrictions because of the coronavirus. shops, schools, universities are functioning in the country, a republican clean-up day took place in the country, now a football championship is taking place.
